The Search Is On

Published by angie139 at 10:29 am under Parenting, Working Moms Edit This

After holding a somewhat unusual short term job for the last two and a half months, it is time to start the search for one that will last a bit longer. Being a Jane of all trades, it is difficult to be specialized in one area enough to really make a career out of it. Making a career out of what I love has been difficult as well. Being a writer is what I love to do. Any type of writing, I am fairly decent at. Creative, business, articles, whatever strikes my fancy. Of course, when it comes down to supporting a family with a regular paycheck, one must consider the fact that writing does not always bring a regular income. So, in comes “Plan B.”

The plan is going out and working a nine to five to make sure that bills get paid. The one area that I can say I am very experienced in is customer service. I know how to make people feel comfortable, and how to make them happy. Whether doing reception or administrative work, all the way to being a nurses assistant. Just about every position I have ever had deals with the basic mantra of, “the customer is always right.”

So in my search, I have a couple things to consider. First, the hours. Now, truly speaking, if I did not have a child to consider, the hours of my job would be more attuned to what my body considers proper waking time. Let’s say, at least eight or nine in the morning. With the school schedule in mind, and trying to spend the most amount of time at home with my family, the hours become more concrete. Up at six, out by seven, at work by eight.

This timing will work well with an early daytime schedule, and it shouldn’t be too difficult to find something dealing with administrative customer service. Today, a couple precursors to the search. One, since this is only my second day since resigning my last position, this has become a great time to schedule the dental visit, get school clothes ready, and get my son registered for school.

In the mean time, the first steps of the search need to be outlined. Today, my goal is to get my resume out, and polish it up like a new pair of shiny patton leather shoes. In order to get your foot in the door, you have to get noticed. Since it has only been about two and a half months, this should not be a difficult task. My next goal is, to find, wash and press all of the nice work clothes I have been wearing and tossing in my hurried mornings.

One last thing, as working mothers, which any mom is a working one, I will try to relate special solutions for things that really matter to us: How to deal with the hubby who is happy with your paycheck, but not the hours that you spend away from him. Quick, simple dinners that will have you eating before you can say, “Who’s cookin’ tonight?” How to fit in dating when you are a single working mom. So let’s have a bit of fun, come on in and join my world as I tackle the issue of being a mother in the working world, even if that working world is her home.
